Maui Pineapple Tour with Lunch
$85.00 BOOK NOW
Get to know the agricultural history of Maui and have a delicious tasting on this Maui Pineapple Tour with Lunch. From the middle 19th century, workers were imported from China, Japan and the Philippines to work in the sugar cane and later the pineapple fields of Maui. Longing for a new life with a promise of freedom, they came by the thousands. Camps were set-up by the plantation owners to house the workers. This created the Plantation Era on Maui. The days were long and the work was hard with the tropical sun beating down hour after hour. Yet, the workers endured and in doing so found a better way of life complete with the freedom they sought.
The pineapple fields upcountry are the only fields that remain in Hawaii. Due to the low cost of imported pineapple from other nations, the industry met a foe, it couldn’t work around. The fields today are hybrid pineapples known as Maui Gold. They are smaller and sweeter than the average pineapple.
Each guest on this Maui Pineapple Tour with Lunch receives a free pineapple and you can also purchase pineapple approved for shipping straight from the packing plant much cheaper than the any store or at the airport. Lunch is served at the General Store. At one time, this was the plantation camp store that was a favorite hang-out of the workers and families of the Haliimaile Plantation Camp. The store now is a restaurant that specializes in the cuisine from Maui during the plantation days. The executive chef is Beverly Gannon whose culinary skills are legendary.

We had a great time on pineapple tour. The guides explained the growth and harvest cycle with humor and explained the history of pineapple production on the islands. And then we were given all the pineapple we could eat right there I'm the fields. We also did the distillery tour. Fairly straight forward. The still though we're the most high-tech I have ever seen. Wish we could same more than just three items.
This tour was nothing short of amazing, from the wonderful tour guide Tim, to the overall experience. My wife and I came here on our honeymoon and they treated us so well and I can't say enough good things about our polite, friendly, and talented tour guide Tim (he definitely made the tour what it is). I would highly recommend this tour to all my friends and family.
We had an awesome experience touring the Maui Gold plantation. I’ve been to Maui several times and this was something I wanted to check off my list. The views were spectacular and our guide Ken was so awesome and informative. This is a must do adventure when you visit Maui!
Lived on Maui 13 years before finally taking a Maui Pineapple Tour. Won't wait so long again! What an educational, entertaining, and healthily delicious tour! Tim, our guide, capably drove our bus through the fields, wielded a machete to serve us round after round of the sweetest pineapple you'll ever taste, and even strummed a 'ukulele to serenade us with the Pineapple Princess song, all the while maintaining high energy and enthusiasm, remembering where we were all from, sharing his wealth of pineapple lore, and (what impressed us most) sporting pineapple high-tops and pineapple socks. Thank you, Maui Pineapple Tours, for a great "field trip" today.
Tour guide Terri did a great job describing the processes about growing pineapples and the history of the industry. The tour was not too long, but sufficient to cover all questions from other folks on the tour. We had been on the Maui Gold tour about 5 yrs ago, and this time was a better tour. Great way to spend 90 minutes!!!
