The Mendes Ranch Oceanfront Trail Ride is also known as the Aloha Ride. The ride begins at the corral on the mountainside of Waihee Ridge. Once everyone is fitted for a horse, this beautiful oceanfront ride begins. As you meander down the edge of the Waihee Valley to the coastline, the magnificent Pacific Ocean highlights the horizon. This Maui horseback riding tour will leave you breathless as you feel the spray of the salt from the ocean below the bluffs. Your Mendes Ranch tour guides will take photos of you and your family with the ocean as a backdrop. This Mendes Ranch Oceanfront Trail Ride offers an outstanding family adventure on horseback in Maui. Children 7 and up are allowed. Sorry, we can’t accommodate children under 7.

The guides at Mendes Ranch are the best. Not only will they brighten your day, but they are also attentive to every member of the group. Everything about Mendes Ranch is first class.

No children under 7 allowed.
No expecting mothers.
Weight limit 250 pounds.
Long pants and closed toed shoes required.

Weather-related cancellations by Mendes Ranch are 100% refundable.

TIPS:

West Side Riders:
Do not enter the GPS until you have passed through the Pali. The route you need to take to reach Mendes Ranch is through Central Maui. Not around the North end of the Island. The road is too narrow and windy. You’ll miss the ride if you take this route.

You will find that you will be much more comfortable on the horse wearing long pants and closed toed shoes.  Blue jeans are the best choice as they are durable and comfortable.  You don’t need cowboy boots – a pair of running shoes will work just fine.

This trail was so fun! The guides made sure everyone stayed within their group and took pictures of us at two different points in the trail. We were able to run our horses twice if we wanted to. Our guides were very friendly, entertaining, and knowledgeable of the surrounding land and property. The horses know what they're doing and won't go faster than a walk unless you're at the running point which is a plus for beginners but may be a downside to experienced riders.

My wife purchased a trail ride for us for our honeymoon. I was skeptical at first but in the end I had an amazing time. Our instructor, Bucky (I think, I apologize if that wasn't your name), was incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming. You can ignore the slightly rustic environs (nothing crazy if you are used to the country and farms) surrounding the barns because the ocean view is stunning. Get there a little early and check out the view from the gazebo. Once saddling up the ride took us down the hill from the barn and diverted into the forest before rejoining the path to several overlooks. The view from the overlook was jaw dropping. Ignore the review in the Maui Revealed book. Bucky was super friendly and offered to take countless photos of us with our phones. We were able to experience having our horses canter or gallop toward the end of the ride coming back uphill. Soft drinks were provided at the barn. Hold onto your hat, it can get pretty windy. Only had one other person on our ride so it was basically like having a private tour.

My wife and I had an excellent experience. Rocky, Butch, and Kami were our guides. Rocky explained everything and made it very easy for first time riders. They all help everyone mount up and guide us along the trail. There are a couple places where they will stop and take pictures of each group and individual rider near cliffs overlooking the ocean. The trail has some large sections of downhill and uphill riding. They have sodas and coffee available while waiting for everyone to check in and get ready. They have saddle bags available that hang on the saddle horn for your small items you wish to carry with you on the ride. I highly advise using them. I recommend bringing a small water bottle that you can carry in the saddle bags or a water flask you can hook on them. Wear closed toe shoes. I preferred wearing jeans but shorts are ok. Don't forget to tip your guides.

Great team of people working together to ensure every rider is safe and has fun! Rode with my husband and daughter and had a wonderful time. Don't forget to bring some cash for a tip!

My wife and I went here during our honeymoon in 2012, and it was one of the best parts of our trip. They put my wife and I on a couple of the horses that like to race. My horse was named Quicksmoke, I can't remember now, but my wife's horse had a fast sounding name too. We got to run a couple of times along the trail, it was a blast. Add the scenic views, good BBQ, and fun loving staff, and you've got a great memory. I hope we have the opportunity to return some day.

This is by far the best horseback riding experience I have ever been on! Rocky was an amazing guide and kept us laughing and feeling safe. The views were amazing throughout the entire ride, and I definitely recommend exploring the property and finding the gazebo before you start on your horseback riding experience! Can't wait to go back and can't recommend this experience enough!
