Take The Road to Hana in Style
There are many tours on Maui that use the Road to Hana as a sightseeing adventure. Most are big companies that offer scenic tours throughout Hawaii. Mahalo Tours is a small company that takes pride in sharing the highway to Hana on Maui in an intimate way. With a smaller vehicle, your tour becomes personal as your relationship with the sights, sounds, and wonders of the journey become intimate. Mahalo Tours use brand new Ford Vans to provide maximum comfort for the adventure ahead. The touring van seat a total of 14 guests, but for your comfort, they never take more than 8 guests. Touring with small groups on the Road to Hana is the best way to sightsee along this famous highway to Hana. If you are visiting Maui with your extended family, this is perhaps the only way to ensure that the spirit of the adventure is enjoyed by just your family.
At one time the Road to Hana was nothing more than a mere trail cut into the sides of cliffs that wound its way through valleys with a stream to be forded. When the road was finally widened and turned into pavement instead of dirt and mud, the bridges that span the streams were also built. They still remain today as a reminder of what the road used to look like so many years ago. Through the years, the road has undergone many changes from widening to repaving. Even though it is still a narrow road. It’s still windy and there are still 54 one lane bridges spanning the stream along the way. Mahalo Tours stop at points of interest that other companies avoid. With a smaller vehicle, they can park in areas where parking is limited to smaller cars and vans. They linger longer and provide a superior service with a smaller group.
Mahalo Tours Knows Hana
Your day of touring the Hana Highway will take you completely around Haleakala. You will see the rolling hills of the back side of the island and wonder like I do, where do the churches that spring up along the road draw their flock from? I mean really, unless cows visit these historical grounds, there is no one for miles. Only cows and the whispers of the wind. You will also be able to swim at Hamoa Bay, hike to the lower pools of Oheo and take a dip. Walk down to the black sand beach at Waianapanapa State Park and explore the caves. You can walk the beach to Hana Bay and wonder if living life here is as perfect as the bay is beautiful.
There was a time, not too long ago the National Park Headquarters in Hana was nothing more than a field with cows grazing in it. There was a hole in the fence that allowed for parking off the road. The cows didn’t care and they had no place else to go that was so abundant with green grass to feed on. Back then you could camp in the pastures, wake to the morning rains and spend the day exploring all the hidden secrets of the seven pools. I can remember walking down to the bluffs overlooking the ocean and watching the waves endlessly crash into the rocks below. Just up the coast, a mere hundred yards was where the stream meets the seas. Make it a family affair and capture the memories of the Road to Hana that will last a lifetime with Mahalo Tours.
