Haleakala Bike Company Tours

Enjoy the breathtaking Sunrise on Haleakala, then bike down the volcano experiencing all the wonders of upcountry Maui from your bike. Or sleep in and take a later tour of the volcano and get the same experience biking down the volcano. The third option is to just do the bike ride which is perfect for those who want a quick upcountry tour. There is only one option with Haleakala Bike Company for a Maui sunrise bike tour. The option is to drive to the baseyard in Haiku. Some members of the group may want to be included in the activity but have no desire to ride a bike down Haleakala. The van tour option is a perfect solution for that type of situation. The rates are also much cheaper than the van option with other companies. This feature separate them from everyone else. They are more family friendly.

I've done this tour before and had a good experience about ten years ago. We booked the sunrise tour for January 17th, and I was skeptical of how it would turn out because of the weather. I still firmly believe that Bike Maui should have cancelled the bike ride that day due to the pouring rain. I know that it's hard to predict weather conditions, but we didn't see the sunrise nor did we even see the sky. Then the bike ride down was cold, rainy and windy. The bikes were not equipped with any type of splash guard, meaning that all the rainwater on the ground would splash onto your face from the tires. I wear contact lens and this made it extremely difficult for me to see. My eyes became extremely irritated for the following few days. While the staff was friendly and kind, I do think that Bike Maui could have protected their customers better by putting safety first. I would've appreciated it if they just called off the ride after seeing the weather and just driven us back down. We felt like we really wasted our time with this tour because we had to get up at around 3AM to get to the bike shop, which took away the previous evening's activities and much of the following day. Bike Maui, if you think your customers aren't going to have a good time biking down, just call off the ride.

Fantastic experience overall! Shuttled to the top of Haleakala to experience the most breathtaking sunrise over an ocean of clouds, followed by an exhilarating downhill bike ride lasting roughly three hours. Can’t recommend this highly enough.

As an avid cyclist this was by far one of the highlights during our visit. The ride up with “Kimo” was super fun and very educational. The bikes are top notch. The views cannot be described in words. We had a great day doing this and the zip line package.

NOTE- we booked this tour with "Bike Maui" which seems to be the same as this company. This was an amazing experience! I was a little nervous about such an early start and the price but it was well worth it. Our party of 4 was picked up at our condo in Ma'alaea at 2:15 am and taken to their facility where we were fitted for helmets and additional gear. The fact that they provide fleece vests, gloves, and rain jackets and pants is incredibly helpful. I thought I was overdressed but it is COLD at the summit so I definitely needed the additional layers they provided- I wore jeans, a long sleeve workout top, tank top, a long sleeve fleece and a knit cap and still added their additional gear on top of that and was still cold at the op. We did the guided tour which was nice because our guide was entertaining really interesting historical background at several stops along the bike ride down. They also have a van following you on the way down so you can remove layers or if for some reason you need to stop you can jump on the van. I removed some layers at the first stop and then close to the bottom it was so ware I was just in my tank top. The 22 mile ride down is very easy, it is almost all downhill so it isn't strenuous. The views are gorgeous at the top and on the ride down are amazing. Definitely bring snacks as none are provided. We ended in Paia and had a chance to grab breakfast on our own and then they dropped us back off at our condo. I loved that they took care of all the details because when you are getting up that early it is early to forget something. It really was worth the price and getting up so early!

Great biking - exhilarating and fun. Guide was sweet but his stories on the way up the mountain took valuable time and he was hard to hear and understand (the accent and he spoke so fast). I would have appreciated more info about biking, being aware of area, site seeing. We met at the store at 9, but didn’t get on the bikes til 12:30. We wanted to make stops but didn’t have enough time to do much. I recommend this but just hope for an efficient guide.
