Paragon is in possession of one of 3 permits that were offered to bring guests to Lanai for snorkel activities. Manele Bay and Hulopoe Beach are considered marine preserves. The unspoiled reefs and land are a tribute to being privately owned. By keeping the number of visitors down, Lanai has flourished into one of the best-kept secrets in Hawaii with some of the most colorful reefs in the world. There was a time when Lanai was known for pineapples. During the 20th century Dole Pineapple bough the island and began planting pineapple on thousands of acres. It was a time of growth for Lanai. Bustling with workers from nations all over the world, all laboring in the fields producing the pineapple that gave Lanai its namesake, the Pineapple Island, Today Lanai is lightly populated with under 4000 residents. Lanai is owned by Larry Ellison who founded Oracle. Mr. Ellison has taken steps to improve the infrastructure of Lanai including Manele Harbor, the airport, and roads. He also turned his attention to the Lodge at Manele and the Lodge at Keole.

If you book with company, just realize that they may cancel at the last minute.

At 5:45 P.M. the evening before our morning snorkel, tour operator called and said trip was canceled because they didn't have enough customers signed up. Better customer service would be: 1) cancel the trip at least 24 hours in advance so I have a chance to rebook with a different boat; 2) make an effort to provide other options at the same day/time, even if that involves referral to a competing company, or 3) run the tour even if the endeavor is not "profitable" for the company.

Great trip, super friendly staff. They were awesome with our 6 year old daughter. Trip to Lanai is a great way to spend the day!

We joined Sail Maui for the sailing trip to Lanai for snorkeling and beach time on Christmas day. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough wind to actually sail, but that did not diminish our good time at all. The crew was professional and very welcoming. Provided picnic lunches were excellent. I can't think of a single negative from our time on board the Paragon.

We saw whales in the first few minutes after leaving the harbor - lucky us! Unlike all of the other sailboats on the water at the time, we were the only boat actually sailing. Also, there were 8 guests on our boat, while the others that we saw were jam packed. Great experience. Will be back!

Truth be told, I am always happy on the water but this trip was perfect and beyond. We actually sailed most of the way across the channel. Food, drinks, everything was great. The snorkeling was better than any other site around Maui. I found a hanu and glided above all the way across the bay.
