Whale Watching on Maui is seasonal from December 15th through April 15th. There are no whale watching tours in the summer. However, during the winter, whale watching is the most popular Maui activity. Trilogy Whale Watch has a brand that is recognizable around the world. They have the largest fleet of sailing catamarans in Maui and sets the standard for whale watching in Maui with 3 different departure points. No matter where you are staying Trilogy has a whale watching tour close to your accommodations. All of Trilogy Whale Watch’s catamarans have a large spacious main cabin, restrooms and viewing areas from the front and back decks for watching the whales. They also provide snacks and beverage as part of the ticket price. A Maui whale watching tour from a charter boat brings you within a couple of hundred yards from the whales. This provides a unique experience in whale watching. Often the captain of the boat moves to head the whales off and cut his engines. The whales continue their course, passing close to the boat. This is when the best photo opportunities for capturing the Humpback Whale occur.

Whether it’s a tail slap, a fin slap or a breach, your Trilogy Whale Watch will get you on top of all the action. In some cases, the whales pop their noses out of the water and watch you. We have always found this amazing as the Humpback Whale is smarter than we ever thought. An onboard naturalist provides a narration of the habits of the humpback whales as you are enjoying these beautiful creatures of the sea. The whales swim up to the boat in most cases, providing great photo opportunities to remember your Maui vacation for years to come.

Besides the first-class customer service Trilogy is known for, another feature that separates them is they sail back to the harbor. During the whale watching season, most other sailing catamarans low their sails and don’t sail at all. Trilogy is an exception to that practice. Trilogy is a very popular whale watching charter, so they sell out rather quickly. The sailing catamarans Trilogy uses for their whale watching tours in Maui are un-crowded with small groups designed for your comfort.

Tip of the Day:
All of Trilogy’s Maui whale watches are barefoot cruises
Kaanapali boards from the beach

Trilogy whale watches from Lahaina are probably the best whale watching tours in Maui. With multiple departures during the day, there is a time that works for everyone. The best times for whale watching are in the morning. Not so much to view the whales, but the ocean conditions are much more favorable for a better experience. Its also not so warm out in the morning which makes for a more enjoyable time. Trilogy only takes small groups out on their whale watches. Unlike the larger cattle boats that depart from Lahaina Harbor, you can rest assured that your experience on Trilogy will be far more rewarding. Like all whale watching tours in Maui Trilogy has a naturalist aboard to share with you the habits and behavior of the humpback whales. All whale watch tours are guaranteed which means if you don’t see any whales the next trip is free!  Whale watching on Maui is seasonal from December 15th through April 15th. There is no whale watching tours in the Summer.

We had the most perfect day on this luxury sailboat! This all day excursion to Lanai far exceeded my expectations. It’s pricey, but once you are on the boat, you clearly understand why. The staff was amazing and extra attentive. Captain Turtle was wonderful, knowledgeable, entertaining and one helluva great chef! Do not eat before you go! The day is chocked full of culinary surprises, from wonderful huge warm cinnamon buns to fresh fruit to a mid morning snack of assorted wraps...everything wonderful! Going over to the wonderful island of Lanai was very special. We spent the day snorkeling surfing and enjoying the island. We all met under a beautiful covered area where the entire staff served us freshly grilled chicken, corn on the cob, salad, wonderful noodles and more. The sail back was nice...great tropical drinks and ice cream sundaes to top it all off! Our hats off to Gillian, Lowell, Sheri, Todd (our son) and Chloe on her first day!
Will highly recommend this wonderful ending to a perfect vacation!

My wife and I went on the Captain's Sunset Dinner Sail. Everything about this trip was great. The captain and crew were both fun and friendly while managing the operations of the boat professionally and efficiently. The food was very good and (though this is out of the control of the crew), the people we were on the sail with were great as well. All of this made for a memorable and very pleasant trip. My wife particularly appreciated that the boat was set up with individual tables for two, specifically for this type of excursion, and it was little details like that that added up and made the trip especially enjoyable. We would definitely do this sail again!

We did the Lanai excursion today and had a wonderful time! There is such a variety of experiences: The boat ride, the landing on Lanai, the food and the beach activities. The scenery is gorgeous at every point, from the boat and from land. The crew does everything... they are experienced sailors, but are also the food and drink servers, so you get many opportunities to ask questions. Bring cash for any tips you want to give, at the end. There is no pressure, but we felt bad we hadn’t brought much cash with us—they absolutely deserve a tip!

My extended family of 10 enjoyed this snorkeling excursion very much! We were looking for an experience away from a big crowd on a large boat and also something safe for a two year old. The boat was comfortable, and felt safe. The crew was a lot of fun and the smaller size boat allowed for a relaxing time for all skill levels and ages in our group (2-60). The food, um cinnamon rolls! and service were great. We saw two species of dolphins and the crews knowledge of marine life and consideration of environmental impact were the cherry on top. Worth the $$ and would definitely recommend.

What a wonderful experience. This is the second time we’ve done the dinner cruise and Trilogy does not disappoint! We experience a major traffic delay with a real bad accident shutting down the road we needed to get to the boat. Not only were we impacted but several other parties. The captain waited for us (about an hour) to be a part of the sailing. The staff is top notch and caring and very attentive. The weather was a perfect night especially for my friend who isn’t excited to be on a boat. The food was superb and the experience of table side service makes this tour all the more enjoyable. Drinks are plentiful if that’s your thing. Ask for history, taking your photo or anything else and the staff is ready to make your sail extra special. We surely will be back!
