The magic of Haleakala continues after sunrise. There are many amazing things to see at the summit of Haleakala besides the sunrise. This is known due to the high number of visitors that enter the park every day. Throughout the day, Haleakala plays host to an array of Maui activities from hiking, bike tours and informational tours conducted by the National Park. But the best is still to come. As the day winds down the breeze stiffens with the sun edging towards to west, sunset creeps up the mountain and this Polynesian Adventure Tours Sunset Tour will take you there to witness this spectacle. The large telescopes strewn across the summit begin to focus on the heavens as darkness begins to shade the vast expanse of Haleakala Crater. Then suddenly a flash streaks across the sky. The green flash is only seen on Haleakala as the sun dips beneath the horizon line. In an instant, it flashes along the horizon, a faded bolt of ghost green. Then it’s gone.  Few will ever witness this magic. This Polynesian Adventure Tours Sunset Tour will pick you up at your hotel, condo, or resort and deliver you to the house of the sun for sunset and tour, once the sunset has faded you’ll go to Cafe O’Lei in Kahului for a three-course meal and eventually you will be brought back to your resort.

After years of exploring opportunities to expand its presence on Haleakala, Polynesian Adventure Tour began experimenting with a Haleakala Sunset Tour.

The ride up the Haleakala Highway is much quicker in the afternoon as most visitors and tour companies are already done for the day. The only remaining people in the rater are those that have heard whispers of this amazing gift from mother nature. They drive up on their own, pay the entry fee and sit and wait. In all reality, they don’t know where or when to look for the green flash. Most of the time they miss it. But, you, on the other hand, have a tour guide that will bring the moment into focus. You won’t miss it.

Polynesian Adventure Tours Sunset Tour is different than any other tour on Maui. Now, it’s one of the most popular sightseeing activities on Maui. If you’re not an early morning person and let’s face it, most of us aren’t, then this Maui sightseeing tour is perfect. With a mid-afternoon pick-up at your resort, you can enjoy the beach in the late morning and early afternoon, then head up to the summit of Haleakala with Polynesian Adventure Tours to experience Sunset on Haleakala.

The guides on the Polynesian Adventure Tours Sunset Tour are born, raised and live in Upcountry Maui. They grew up with the history of Haleakala, they know it best and will share the myth, the legends and the facts of Haleakala Crater, House of the Sun. Cameras do not really capture the moment. Your smartphone also has a video recorder installed on it. The best way to bring this awesome moment home is by recording a video of the action. With this method, you will record the moments before, during and after. That’s a memory!

Tip of the Day:
Dress warm! We recommend a warm coat for the summit of Haleakala.

We bought the Road to Hana tour through this company. They pick you up from your hotel around 6am & then take you to a golf course to eat a light breakfast. Mostly consists of scones, muffins, fruit, juice, tea, & coffee. Lunch is included. I got the turkey sandwich. That was a pretty good sandwich 😋 anyways, we got Hank as our tour guide. Let me say that this man knows his stuff. We learned so much about the history of not just Maui but of the islands of Hawaii. He talked about everything from when Captain Cook first sailed here & put Hawaii on the map to what's happening now with the economy. It was great. I love a history lesson while I'm admiring the sights. He even stopped to let me pet a goat. I didn't pet the goat cause it ran away. This was an amazing tour. This road is dangerous though but Hank is a master at driving it. It's also absolutely stunning. So many waterfalls & lush green forests & beautiful beaches. Thank you Hank for truly making it a wonderful & unforgettable day ♥️

We bought a Road to Hana tour through our resort. What made me want to buy this was that the tour included the back off the circle.

I honestly wasn't sure what to expect on the tour, but our tour guide made the trip! He was funny, informative, and attentive to all of us.

Our bus had USB plugs to keep our phones charged. That was fabulous.

They also provide you tons of water and juice.

We stopped at major places that were important for us to see. Places where we did not stop, he slowed down for pictures and fed us a ton of information.

We did this early in our vacation, and I am glad we did. We knew so much more about the island because of this tour.

We had to book last minute on our due to our original tour guide cancelling. We are not big cruise excursion fans preferring to book our own excursion.

The tour bus was small with roughly 24 seats, large side windows and a large window in the front. Our tour guide was great, she was very knowledgeable and pointed out interesting items on our trip up the mountain. Hidden within her narrations were some very funny comical jokes or stories. On the way back down, she kept the narration to a minimum, letting us rest and nap.

There is nothing to describe what you see at Haleakala's summit. To look out across a sky filled with fluffy clouds. The land is tints of red and looks alien. And to watch the sun set was spectacular. There is more to this place, it is a place worshiped by the Hawaiians. It is the House of the Sun.

I am here in Maui on my honeymoon. I booked this tour (Haleakalā) weeks ago. I called yesterday at 7:15pm to confirm the tour since nobody had reached back out to me after providing my hotel information. The representative at dispatch had all of my information (which means that they they received my email with my hotel info). I was told to be at the hotel lobby at 2:30am (different than the 3:00am time printed on my ticket... thanks for letting me know about that before my phone call, Polynesian Adventure Tours). I repeated back to the representative “okay, so we will be at the hotel lobby at the circle by 2:30am. She told us, “that is correct.” I then asked “out of curiosity, what time will we get back?” She told me “4:30am,” which I know had to be incorrect.

I write this review now as I sit back in my hotel room not on the tour because the representative gave me the wrong pickup information. Apparently there’s is a different location that we should have been told to be waiting at. The driver called my HOTEL ROOM instead of my CELL PHONE, which is idiotic since we clearly wouldn’t be in the hotel room if we are waiting for a tour elsewhere.

The company has not been able to provide a resolution yet, but nobody should have to go through this... especially on your honeymoon. STAY AWAY!!

Had a great sunrise tour with Wayne. Wayne was very knowledgeable and had many interesting tidbits. He was quite a talker, and I learned far more than I would have thought possible about the island. Beautiful sunrise, worth getting up early! Breakfast and the snack were a weak point, could use improvement. However, would definitely recommend as a highlight of our trip!
