Pacific Whale Foundation Knows How to Snorkel Molokini

Pacific Whale Foundation offers a unique Molokini snorkeling tour that is more than just another Maui snorkeling trip. It’s also an opportunity to learn about the preservation efforts that are underway to protect the most valuable resource Maui has, its ocean residents. In the island activity business, Pacific Whale Foundation is known as the environmental leaders in the State of Hawaii and are worthy stewards of our reefs, marine life and ocean. It’s great for families with children under 12 as we offer 1 child 12 and under free per paying adult.

Molokini Crater is a crescent-shaped volcanic crater that is actually a collapsed caldera. Its unique position in the ocean makes it the perfect short journey by boat as well as a world-class snorkeling destination. The mooring pin for Pacific Whale Foundation to Snorkel Molokini is away from the main body of charter boats that go out every morning to do these snorkel Molokini tours. With over 250 varieties of fish at Molokini Crater inhabiting colorful reefs in crystal clear waters, there really isn’t a better snorkeling destination in Hawaii. Pacific Whale Foundation will provide the snorkeling equipment or you may bring your own. Large power catamarans, such as the one used for this activity, are specially designed for Hawaiian waters and provide great stability.

Breakfast and Lunch are Served

After a full morning of snorkeling at Molokini, PWF fires up the BBQ and serves lunch. After lunch, you’ll enjoy the views on your way to the second snorkeling destination as Pacific Whale Foundation motors to Turtle Arches off the coast of Makena. Here you will be able to snorkel with the green sea turtles. To raise awareness for the environment the Pacific Whale Foundation includes an informative tour of the reef area with an onboard naturist. The naturist will bring to your attention the sensitivity of the marine issues that are cause for concern not only on Maui but around the world as well. The turtles are so amazing and graceful. Without a care in the world, they swim about with grace and beauty.

Founded in the 1980s as a non-profit company by Greg Kaufman as a small business, PWF has grown into one of the largest Maui activity providers and a champion for saving our oceans. They also have a great dinner cruise, whale watching, and Lanai Dolphin Snorkel.  Although PWF is based on Maui their research efforts have extended to the South Pacific in an attempt to understand the effects that climate change has on the oceans. Pacific Whale Foundation gives back to the community each year with several fundraisers and awareness programs that add to the charm of Maui. By sponsoring these activities, they have created an interest in Maui and the issues that as an Island we face daily. A few of the activities that PWF sponsors are a 5K run that is known as “Run for the Whales” and several ocean activities that are a tribute to the Humpback Whale.

Went on the 9am whale watch. Saw our first whale at 0908 AM. Awesome mix of both sides of the boat so everyone could see. Had several breaches. Super informative and supporting a non profit. Had a couple sea sensitive people in our group that were fine with a ginger pill. Highly recommend! Awesome experience!!!

Whale watch with an experienced team who are also researchers. I experienced whale watching while learning about their behaviours, history and conservation efforts. If you’re looking for a tour where you can also feel good supporting and protecting wildlife then this tour is for you. The whales came so close to us we had to cut the engines as they were inside the 100yard range and the whales came closer to check us out. We had a mother calf on both sides and it was incredible and quiet too. There was a distinct reverence for what we were witnessing. As soon as the whales moved away a safe distance we started up and moved away to give them a break from us tourist. We went off in search of new ones. We also saw dolphins and you know it’s good when the people who do this day in and day our are beyond excited. What an amazing trip!!

We did a 7am snorkeling tour with Pacific Whale Foundation and it was worth every penny. Both the locations were great and we had fun snorkeling. Being our first time snorkeling, the crew made sure we were comfortable in the water and helped us in every way possible. We also saw lot of whales throughout the tour. The crew was friendly and took great care with food and drinks. I would highly recommend this snorkeling tour.

What a great experience. First at their store Andrea was awesome, she helped book our dinner cruise and was extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgeable! My parents were visiting so I wanted to take them on something special. John was the captain and Dylan our server and it was fantastic. Whales everywhere, breaching and with calves. The sunset was breathtaking and the food was excellent. The entire crew was awesome. We loved it. We stopped by store after cruise to thank Andrea. Highly recommend!
