Before entering Maalaea Harbor, they stop to watch the green sea turtles floating along the harbor entrance. There are about 20 at any given time. Nice way to conclude a day of snorkeling on Maui. We had a great time whale watching with Sail Maui! Brian and Ben were great. Super informative, helpful, and had great service. The catamaran was in excellent condition and most importantly we saw tons of whales in a safe and respectful manner. I recommend Sail Maui if you are thinking of going out on the water.
If you book with company, just realize that they may cancel at the last minute.
At 5:45 P.M. the evening before our morning snorkel, tour operator called and said trip was canceled because they didn't have enough customers signed up. Better customer service would be: 1) cancel the trip at least 24 hours in advance so I have a chance to rebook with a different boat; 2) make an effort to provide other options at the same day/time, even if that involves referral to a competing company, or 3) run the tour even if the endeavor is not "profitable" for the company.
The staff was incredibly fun, unfortunately that’s the best thing I can say about our experience. We did a “sunset tour” which I put in quotations because we were already docked when the actual sunset occurred, even though the tour was billed as a sunset ride. My wife and I were also very disappointed that though we were told that whale watching would be included, when we saw whales jumping in the distance the crew made no effort to Move toward them to see more. This was neither a whale watch nor a sunset tour but a very expensive tour of the harbor with drinks included.
We joined Sail Maui for the sailing trip to Lanai for snorkeling and beach time on Christmas day. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough wind to actually sail, but that did not diminish our good time at all. The crew was professional and very welcoming. Provided picnic lunches were excellent. I can't think of a single negative from our time on board the Paragon.
Great trip, super friendly staff. They were awesome with our 6 year old daughter. Trip to Lanai is a great way to spend the day!
