Tour does not enter Haleakala National Park. Due to the new commercial vehicle codes January 1st, 2018. Mountain Riders takes you to the Park Entrance at 6500 feet where you will begin your guided bike tour down the slopes of Haleakala.

This Mountain Riders Day Bike Tour lets you experience Haleakala and the thrill of downhill biking without the 2 am wake up call for sunrise tours.  Once you arrive at the park entrance of Haleakala, you will experience your first photo opportunity. Before the bike ride you will be expertly fitted to your bicycle and given a comprehensive safety briefing. Your bike down a volcano adventure begins here and will take you 28 miles down the slopes of Haleakala through Haleakala Ranch, the upcountry community of Kula where you will stop for a sit down “no host”(buy your own) lunch at the Kula Lavender Farm. Following lunch and a tour of the flower farm, you will continue your Maui bike tour into the historical town of Makawao and through Pukalani, coasting by pineapple and sugar cane fields to Pai’a and the ocean.

There isn’t much of a difference between the sunrise tours and the Mountain Riders Day Bike Tour. Besides getting out of bed in the middle of the night, there is no sunrise. Which means you get to sleep in.

After you are picked up, you will enjoy a continental breakfast stop consisting of hot coffee, juice and pastries at the base yard of Mountain Riders and given a comprehensive safety briefing. On the way, up to the park entrance of Haleakala your driver will share some of the history of Upcountry Maui.

Excellent experience! Our guides Alika and Rob were phenomenal. Alika was VERY knowlegable, friendly, and warm. Our driver Rob was also very knowledgeable and kept us safe. Our family of 6 likes to joke around and Alika kept us entertained the entire time. The breakfast stop in the little town was cute and delicious! The homemade donuts are amazing. So great to have Maui born and raised guides deliver such an awesome experience. My brother who lives on the big island exchanged numbers with Alika to meet up with him! The only thing I recommend is to BRING GLOVES!!! Also dress in layers because the beginning of the trip is cool! We did the Haleakala Sunrise Tour.

We had Everett, Nani, and Bobby. Couldn't have asked for a better crew to guide us through the experience. We got picked up at 230am which seemed insane at the time but getting up there early snags you the best seat on the volcano. The sunrise is breath taking. The picture doesn't do it justice. Dress warm as it's cold up there and strip off the layers as you descend later. The ride down the hill is alot faster than I expected. Remember to lean into the curves instead of turning the handlebars. It had been awhile since I had been on a bike but once I got used to it I felt like I was flying. Glad I brought my gopro as the helmets they supply already have mounts on them. Would absolutely do it again if I could have the same crew and bikes.

Awesome view. Love the twist, turns and curves. Stopping at cowboy town for lunch was like stepping back into time. The tour guide was outstanding!! He sure did know his history of the island. He would point out lots of interest things about the island. I would highly recommend this tour.

My husband and I did this tour on our honeymoon and had a great time. They picked us up outside our condo at 2:30AM (yep, you read that right) and drove us to the top of Haleakala for ~5:00AM (sunrise was at 6:08AM). We had the best spot right in front of the guard rail, and our driver taught us lots of interesting information about Maui. The sunrise was gorgeous, but keep in mind that it's on average about 30 degrees colder at the top of Haleakala than at sea level - it was COLD! They supplied us with windbreakers and I was wearing jeans, sneakers, 3 shirts, and a toque, and I was still cold. So dress appropriately!
After the sunrise they drove us down to 6,500 feet above sea level and we started our bike tour. The bike trip down the side of the volcano was SO awesome - but be prepared to go fast!! I wouldn't recommend this tour for people who aren't comfortable on a bike, especially because the bikes are a bit worn and you really had to reef on the brakes to come to a full stop. My hands were aching by the end. We had to keep stopping for the less-able bikers to catch up, which was a bit of a bummer sometimes.
The scenery was absolutely beautiful and our guide/driver were great as well.

This tour was a big letdown (regular day bike tour). The guides were great - knowledgeable and friendly and helpful with other island info - but the tour itself is extremely underwhelming. You do NOT go to the top of the volcano and do NOT see the crater. We did not stop for pictures at all along the way down. This was just a slow coast down a paved road. Some of the slowest riders were placed in front so it wasn't even a particularly fun ride. You could do this drive on your own to see the views and save a lot of money.
